These are the fics that I'd say grabbed me in all the right places--characterisation, structure, writing style, concept and depth. They drew me into their world, made me love the characters like I do in canon, kept a hold of my interest the whole way through, made me feel all sorts of delicious things and then left me with ideas and images that continued to haunt me through the following days.
I still haven't read everything and there were other fics that I liked a lot. These were the ones that hit me in all the right places at the same time, though. And yeah, looking at the list, it is a bit skewed towards my own team. Heh. I think that's because I tend to strongly prefer fics that feel like canon (thus chosing to be on that team). Or possibly it's just blatant favouritism. ;P

As soon as he saw the mirror, he knew it was meant to be his. Its magic glowed and pulsed behind the film of dust and tarnish. Its frame was of ebony wood, glossy black and carved in intricate patterns suggesting unfamiliar runes and symbols. The words "Toujours Pur" were engraved across the highest arch of the frame in letters so filigreed they were almost illegible. Its surface was smooth and reflective, like a still, deep pond. I love my hpvalensmut fic. I'm kind of fond of my daily_deviant fic, too. I don't know if either of them are any good or if anyone else will like them, but writing them is making me feel lovely. I seem to be in a bit of a fic writing zone at the moment. I haven't been there in over a year. In fact, I remember this time last year I was in full blown panic mode as I was completely burnt out from the holiday fests but still had a bunch of assignments due and my muse had gone on holiday to Ulan Batoor. As Muses do. This year, I'm all aflame or something. This is how it felt when I was writing my first fan fic. I couldn't wait to get back to the computer. I could write through anything, kids, husband, parents-- it all faded away as I rolled around in the images I was trying to translate into words.
Part of it is down to the usual hormones and neural engery/chemicals falling into the right patterns. A bigger part of it is something JKR said in the recent documentary. I don't have an exact quote, but the gist of it was that she was looking forward to being able to write without pressure again. When she first began writing Harry Potter her attitude was, "I love writing and what's the worst that could happen?" Yeah. Exactly. In fact, I think worrying about "what could happen" is one of the most blocking cycles I go through in my creative endeavours. What if it's shit? What if no one likes it? What if no one comments? What if I make a fool out of myself and people spork my fic on a secret sporking com? What if it doesn't drive a spike of joy and emotion into the heart of every single reader? What will the point have been?
Heh. I love writing. That's the point of it. Writing makes me happy. I love writing for the sake of it. I have to remind myself of that over and over again.

So, I just read the most depressing fic in the entire world. Those images are going to stay with me for a day or two. I'm totally going to inflict it on the next hp_darkfic_recs (which had it's third issue posted yesterday, btw).
I'm approaching fic reading burnout, I think, so it's good that we are off to the inlaws tomorrow. There's still some wonderful stuff being posted, though.

Weee! The first issue of HP Dark!Fic Recs has been posted. It only took me three hours to do! Yay! It's got just enough watchers so far that I'm feeling quite happy. I hope it will pic up more as time goes on, but we'll see. I feel all squishy and happy being a sick pervert at the moment. *grins*
I've been reading so much fic! As have most of us, I'm sure. I've quite a few wonderful things. I think I'll wait until Friday to post recs.
Eh, I'm having a happy moment. So there. I'm going out to a club on Saturday with some other sick perverts and it will be fun. It's a new place. The people who run it seem really cool via email and it claims to be particularly female friendly. I like that.
On the other hand I seem to be rather burnt as far as writing is concerned, which is very bad news for my daily_deviant Kinky Kristmas fic. I really want to write it, but I want to do it properly. I just don't think there's time. Meh.
Why is there no Draco/Rosmerta fic? He had her under Imperio. There should be fic. Sort of dub/non-con/comfort-sex generally fucked kind of stuff. *makes plans*

So, I'm all wriggly today and wanting some good dark!fic recs.
And I thought -- you know what would be cool? If there were a weekly newsletter specialising in Dark!fic, so those of us who lean that way can just mainline the stuff without having to sort it from the fluff, etc. (Nothing against fluff. I enjoy all sorts of fic, fluff included. Sometimes I just really want the dark stuff, though.)
The com I'm thinking of wouldn't specialise in Voldemort or Fenrir or even Death Eaters. It could be fucked up Harry/Ron or Dark!Ginny or even Cannibal! Dumbldore. Non-con, violence, death!fics, even happy endings allowed as long as there is darkness somewhere earlier in the fic. Also, new stuff, old stuff...as long as it's good (in someone's opinion).
You reckon it's a good idea? People could send in their recs, rec their own fics, coms, art, etc.
Do you know if a com like this already exists?
I'm particularly thinking about the upcoming fests. I know for a fact there is going to be some really lovely stuff posted.

So, I've had three new commissions come in recently, and they are all absolutely wonderful. Thus, I share them with you all. :D

She drew me a header banner for allthings_teddy, and it turned out exactly as I'd hoped it would. Rated G. :D

son_of_darkness told me that I make too many art commissions the other day. I just really, really love fan art, and since almost no one draws Bella/Harry, I have to pay people to do it for me. Such is life. :D
